Thank You Rev. Scott!

Central Church would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to Rev. Dr. Judith Scott for shepherding our congregation the past three years. Rev. Scott has received a call to be the interim pastor at Bethel United Church of Christ in Kansas City. Her last Sunday preaching at Central will be this Sunday, July 25, and we are hosting a reception potluck luncheon in her honor following the service. Please come out and show Rev. Scott just how much she has impacted our lives.

Rev. Scott started her journey with our church as a supply pastor, and soon became part of our family. For three years, she has driven to Jefferson City once or twice a week from the Kansas City area where she lives. In her brief time at our church, she has become a fixture: attending meetings of the Council and various groups, delivering Communion to our shut-ins, mailing homemade birthday cards to members, interacting with other religious leaders in the community, and teaching the first Confirmation class that had been held at our church in several years. Along the way, she became our permanent part-time pastor, and a permanent fixture in our hearts.

Rev. Scott has made her physical mark on this church, from the painting of Sanders Farm that adorns the wall of the Parlor to the art prints of Isaiah that line the outer walls of the chancel. Until she donated that amazing series of prints made from copper etchings to us, and her husband Bob installed them, those walls were bare and empty. Now they are a testament to beauty and to the Glory of God, and we wonder why we never thought to put anything on them before.

Most importantly, Rev. Scott has made an impact on our lives, both mentally and spiritually. The three years that she has been here have not been easy ones… from the initial upheaval period during which she came, to the pandemic of the last seventeen months. She has dealt with every trial and tribulation with her steady resolve, leading us forward, all while knowing that at any moment the Search and Call Committee could present a candidate for the permanent Senior Pastor position. That is leadership, character, conviction, and devotion…and Rev. Dr. Judith Scott possesses all of those characteristics in abundance. She has guided our spiritual lives with the exact same aplomb, never wavering in her role as shepherd of this particular flock.

Rev. Scott may be leaving our church to follow God’s calling at the next stop on her journey, but she will never leave our hearts. We wish you great joy and happiness, Judy. We’re thankful that your commute will be much, much shorter now. We love you!

RUMMAGE SALE TIME! This is the one you wait for. COVID kept us from having one last year, and it delayed us a few months this year, but we’re bound and determined to have our annual rummage sale this year.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 7 from 7:00am – 1:00pm. The bargains are always plentiful, so come and stock up on some great values for your family or your home. Please note that due to the ongoing pandemic and the rising case rates in the state, we are requiring masks for all individuals at this event, regardless of your vaccination status. Thank you for your cooperation.
