Women in God’s Service (W.I.G.S.) was founded in 1969 by Elenor Vieth. They are women who share a commitment to serve God through Christian endeavors. This service includes:
- bringing food donations for the Samaritan Center to their regular meetings
- preparing and serving a meal at the Salvation Army
- delivering Meals on Wheels
- visiting Central’s homebound members
- putting together Easter baskets to donate to the Samaritan Center
- assembling and mailing care packages to our church college students and to our active duty military members
The W.I.G.S. also prepare and serve a German sausage dinner each spring featuring their delicious German potato salad and grilled sausage. The group uses the proceeds from this annual event to support charitable causes and organizations and other church programs, including: Special Olympics, RACS, Samaritan Center, Salvation Army, Dreams to Reality, Special Learning Center, The Healing House, CASA, Central UCC Women’s Fellowship, Camp Aurora scholarships, Church World Service blanket drive, Festival of Sharing, church youth mission trip, and Buddy food packs.
Since 2008, they have participated in the Cole County Relay for Life.
Cancer has touched several of their members as well as many other families at Central UCC.
Over this period of time, the women of the W.I.G.S. circle have raised over $58,000 for this worthy cause. They hope the funds raised will help bring the American Cancer Society closer to a cure.
W.I.G.S. meet the fourth Monday of the month
at 6:30 p.m. in the Church Parlor.
(September through May except for December)
In addition to their regular meetings, they gather for coffee and fellowship on the second Monday of the month (September through May) at 8:30 a.m. at different area coffee shops. They also enjoy social gatherings with spouses or significant others several times throughout the year.
