2018 Golf Tournament

The 12th Annual Central UCC Golf Tournament was held Sept. 7, 2018.  Fourteen teams participated on an overcast day.  The weather forecast was a little scary, but except for some sprinkles right before they started, the teams avoided the rain until the last two holes.

They then adjourned back to the church where they were joined by some non-golfers for the auction and a fabulous pork steak dinner prepared by the Brotherhood.  Warren Witt served as auctioneer for the many donated gifts.

The anxiously awaited “Putt for the Prize” contest took place prior to the start of the tournament.  The names of four registered golfers were drawn.  Each was given one chance to sink a 50-foot putt.  Travis Phillips, from Roach, MO, was the second name drawn.

He carefully eyed the hole and the green, mentally noted the slope and the conditions, looked at his golf ball, slowly let out a deep breath (and possibly said a silent prayer while doing so), and swung his club.  The golf ball rolled across the green and into the hole.

Travis was the only one of the four contestants to sink the putt, so he will win the entire $2500 prize provided by the Tony Porter Agency, American Family Insurance.  Travis is studying to be a missionary and states he will use the prize money to help defray the cost of tuition.

Congratulations, Travis!
